Ferret

Ferret - oil on board - 20cm x 20cm
$ 200 Aus unframed + pph

This little sequence shows how the picture is built up. It's for those of you who have been asking for information on how I paint. This picture was first sketched in in charcoal, then progressed by laying in the darks, quite thinly and working towards the lights and building them up more thickly. ( I usually include a stage where I outline a picture in orange/red oil wash after the charcoal but in this case I went straight to painting in oil.) The thicker paint allows the light to be reflected from the tiny ripples left by the bristles in the thicker paint - that's what adds sparkle and life to the painting.
