The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2009 is jointly awarded to

Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak

for the discovery of

"how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase"

How wonderful that an Australian scientist has again shared in the Nobel prize for medicine.
I can only add my congratulations to those of countless others and hope that my little portrait
sketch honours her achievement.
